Hope your readings and experiments are coming along fine. How is everything else?
Well, everything over here is terrific. We are gearing up for Nerd Nite Nola #002. We have 2 speakers semi-lined up and almost have a venue locked down. Projected date for #002 is Monday, October 11. 10.11.10 - cute, eh?
So, it has come to my attention that a lot of people don't know what exactly Nerd Nite is. It's very simple: A bunch of nerds get together to drink beer and watch other nerds present interesting things. That's it! See how easy that is? Now, the concept is simple, but the content may be a little more difficult.
We are looking for speakers to present on any topic they choose! As long as you make it interesting and, ideally, fun/funny, we want you! Can you explain Feynman's work in The Manhattan Project and quantum mechanics? Show us! Have you traced the genealogical roots of Chewbacca and can present the history of the Wookie? We need you! Want to show us your theories on Big Bang vs Big Bounce? We're ready for it!
Our first Nerd Nite consisted of: a DJ presenting the science behind scratching (it's more organized that you think!), the man who helped lift the ban on absinthe in the States, an artist speaking on how to create and publish your own comic without losing your mind, and a superfan who broke down why Steely Dan rocks. So many different kinds of speakers and topics.
What can you think of? You may surprise yourself. Hit me up with your ideas and we'll talk about it.

Nerd Nite NOLA is officially rolling out!
The always wonderfully awesome and supportive Jason at BSI Comics has graciously offered us his upstairs space for our inaugural Nerd Nite! This is my home base comic book store and I can't think of a better place to kick us off, can you???
Here are the pertinent details:WHEN: Friday, August 6th, 7:30 PMIt wouldn't be Nerd Nite without BEER! Our motto is "It's like the Discovery Channel, with beer!" So, wear your drinking pants and come get your nerd learn on. We've got some really smart and cool speakers and are looking for one or two more.
